Chu’Mesa Studios is an independently owned and operated business concept. We are currently fully devoted to exploring the feasibility of online publishing based on a system of gifts and generosity. Chu’Mesa Studios is currently fully committed to pursuing the business of online publishing. To our knowledge, there is no other service like the one that we provide: where we allow you, the reader, to experience our stories and decide whether or not you would like to support them. This is an experimental business model and it may or may not continue depending entirely upon reader response. Our goal is to remove the middle-man from author-reader interactions and allow more of the overall revenue to be directed to the authors themselves.

Are the stories presented by Chu'Mesa Studios free?
Absolutely not.
Each story takes years of hard work to develop and prepare for public release. Authors must devote countless hours of work to their presentations and make many financial sacrifices to complete their books. Without the financial support of their audience the authors of Chu'Mesa Studios would not be able to continue devoting themselves to providing quality literature for their readers.

Why don't I have to pay to read the stories presented by Chu'Mesa Studios?
Chu'Mesa Studios believes that ideas are free. We can't stop you from knowing everything there is to know about our stories and we don't want to! We believe it is our job to bring these stories to you in the most convenient and easily accessible formats possible. Authors pour their lives and hard work into their books with the hope and dream that millions of people will read, share and be inspired by their ideas.
Does this mean that our authors don't need money? Of course not! It is only through the financial support of readers that an author can continue to produce and provide excellent stories for all to enjoy.

How can I support the authors to make sure they can continue writing?
Chu'Mesa Studios strives to provide many convenient ways for our visitors to support the writers represented on our website.
The first and most direct method is to send a monetary gift to the writer. Every gift, no matter how small, helps our writers to continue writing.
The second way to show support is to purchase a printed version of the books you love. We provide at least two variations of each book for purchase. The first variation is as inexpensive as we can possibly make it and provides only a minimal payment to the author. The second variation is more expensive and provides a more generous compensation. We present our printed books through print-on-demand publisher lulu press in an effort to keep costs as low as possible.
The third way to show support is to purchase audiobooks and other merchandise. Occasionally, we will have the priviledge of presenting various pieces of artwork related to certain stories as well. All of the profits from these items will support the writer.

How does this work? Is anyone else doing it?
As a business, Chu'Mesa Studios relies upon income to prevail. Likewise, our authors rely upon your financial support in order to continue writing. The purpose of this website is to help generate that financial support by drawing in interested readers who will purchase books or support authors directly through monetary gifts. It is our belief that readers will benefit greatly by a more direct relationship with the authors they enjoy. The business model of Chu'Mesa Studios is designed to remove all the obstacles and middle men that traditionally stand between authors and readers.
Offering freely viewable content through online media is certainly not a new idea and there are many websites available online which do so. Pioneers like Penny Arcade and PvP Online proved the validity of such business models through their own tireless efforts. Chu'Mesa Studios owes much to sites like these as it strives to take its place among them.

I see the notation "... [pm]" in the stories. What does [pm] mean?
The notation "... [pm]" stands for "print match." Each book presented by Chu'Mesa Studios is formatted so that the online version and the printed version match exactly page-per-page. However, because text is formatted differently in an internet browser than it is on the printed page, paragraphs that run from one page to another will be displayed differently in your browser than they are in print. When this discrepancy occurs, we mark the text with a "... [pm]" so that the reader will know that the unusual formatting is being used to maintain a match between the online version and the printed version.

The Chu’Mesa Studios website extends from the top of the page downward. The main sections of the site are listed directly below the header image. What happened to the open forums hosted by Chu'Mesa Studios?
The forums themselves were never an integral part of the interface provided by Chu'Mesa Studios. We experimented with them for a time in the hope that their open nature would allow our users to freely interact with our writers. For the most part, they were successful in their purpose, however, they fell prey to continuous harassment by spambots and other malware. The forums simply evolved into a problem for the website and could no longer be maintained. We are working hard on a replacement for them and hope to provide our users with a suitable, if not better, solution in the near future.

I see fictional writers. How can a fictional writer write a story?
Fictional authors and writers are merely surnames. Oftentimes, within the context of a given series, it is beneficial for a particular author to either assume the style and character of a fictional writer or contract the writing of a particular piece out to someone else who is willing to write under a particular surname. This is done to benefit the delivery of the storyline as a whole and we would encourage our readers to delve into the imagination that these fictional writers are truly the authors of these works.

If a writer wishes to be identified as the true talent behind a particular story, there are methods available on this site to facilitate a revelation of that nature. However, if an author wishes to remain anonymous within the context of the surname that they are using, we at Chu’Mesa Studios will honor their desire by keeping their true identity private. We encourage our readers to give gifts regardless of this anonymity since a good story remains a good story regardless of whether or not the name of the writer is known.
